Thank you Dr Battaglia. I was involved in K9 SAR here in Australia and trained under one of the most respected knowledgeable trainers here. Steve Austin from Hanrob Kennels in NSW. Thank you for your quick reply. I found reference to your papers and methods under Von Forell kennels who train guard dogs and I was very interested in these methods. I have been training to these methods for many years and did not know this method as it was named. I just did what I worked on and adapted my mindset to dogs and worked from there. I have heard of Konrad before but really did not know that he wrote papers as far back as 1935. Very interesting reading I must say and it has given me a totally new view on methods

I am reading your book "Breeding Dogs to Win" and now, after reaching and reading through much of your Mendel chapter, I think I understand why so many in my broader family are scientists and I knew it was best for me to avoid even attempting classes in the subject area.

Also, having read about the diseases breeds are heir to, unless I have a very good insurance policy (as well as patience, dedication and energy) I should not own a pedigreed dog. I have read somewhere that mutts are less subject to these problems so, if true, maybe I would make a better mutt owner.

Anyway, your impressive erudition comes right through as you make the topic understandable, even somewhat to me. I certainly get the idea, at this stage of my reading, that given the science available, good dog breeding is not well served by just applying experience, hope, luck and intuition.

"Thank you again for presenting the "seminar" in Belleville, this past weekend. Not only was it informative, but it opened the arena to honest thoughtful discussion about dogs today and their problems. I am hopeful that this approach will ensure a healthy future for our beloved companions.

Sharing your insights and personal stories made the information easier to digest and entertaining.

Hope all goes well with your planned litter.

Linda"

"Dr. Battaglia has written a thoroughly researched treatise that is sure to become the bible of all serious breeders. He takes the complicated topic of "Breeding Better Dogs" through research and genetics and explains the subject in terms that any layman can understand. If you want to understand how to improve your breeding program, "Breeding Dogs to Win" is essential reading".

Tom Grabe, Publisher, The Canine Chronicle

"Dr. Battaglia, in his book "Breeding Dogs to Win", has created a renaissance product, covering the spectrum from the principles of Mendelian genetics to the practical concepts of a good canine breeding program. The book is very readable because he has avoided the jargon of both scientists and dog breeders. There is something for everyone interested in "Breeding Better Dogs". His breeding program sets the standard for those serious about producing the best puppies possible".

Ralph J. Graff, M.D., Director of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory, Saint Louis University Medical Center.

"Dr. Battaglia has a keen power of observation, and understanding of dog structure, movement, and genetic selection. This, combined with his ability to communicate in a clear and articulate manner, provides the reader with the tools needed to make informed breeding decisions".

"I have just arrived home and wanted to send out a special thank you to Dr Battaglia, and the EOLBA for a wonderful "seminar". I know that we are very lucky to have someone like Joanne Fernall to organize such an event, and for Dr. Battaglia to take time from his very busy schedule to present such a wonderful learning "seminar". Thanks to all from a very happy tail wagging person. :-)
